Sri Ramakrishna hospital today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Gleneagles Global Health City, Chennai for performing liver transplantation at Sri Ramakrishna Hospital, Coimbatore.
Sri Ramakrishna hospital has been at the forefront of offering high quality, compassionate, affordable tertiary health care for patients in and around Coimbatore for the past 40 years. The hospital now is venturing into the field of liver transplantation and is entering into a MOU with Gleneagles global health city, Chennai, whose team headed by Prof. Mohamed Rela is one of the best in the worldin the field of liver transplantation. Â Dr Rela has performed close to 3000 liver transplants all over the world and he is the sole liver transplant surgeon who has performed more than 750 pediatric liver transplants. The scope of the MOU involves performance and postoperative care after liver transplantation in Sri Ramakrishna Hospital, training of various specialists of Sri Ramakrishna Hospital in liver transplantation & allied fields and gradual transfer of techniques and technology involved in liver transplantation to Sri Ramakrishna Hospital. These specialties include liver surgery, liver anaesthesia, liver intensive care, transplant hepatology, pediatric hepatology, transplant infectious diseases and provision of blood banking services for this highly demanding team work. Operation theatre nurses, ICU nurses and ward nurses from Sri Ramakrishna Hospital also would be trained by Gleneagles global health city, Chennai under the MOU. Gradual and sustained transition of liver transplant work will happen to the team of doctors in Sri Ramakrishna Hospital. We believe that the MOU will allow a very well trained liver transplant workforce, which will contribute to safe performance & very good postoperative outcome after liver transplantation at Sri Ramakrishna hospital.
