Kasthuri Sreenivasan was one of India’s pre eminent textile technologist, industrial sociologist and a prolific bilingual writer in the decades following independence. As Founder Director of South India Textile Research Association (SITRA), he fostered an environment of scientific enquiry, quality control and applied research in the spinning industry. He was conferred the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India in 1969. He was also Chairman of the NTC Limited from 1974 to 1981.
He wrote more than 25 books covering various genres such as fiction, non-fiction, poetry, short stories and plays. He was also an ambitious translator and undertook the work of Tirukkural, the Sundara Kandam from Kamba Ramayanam and Silappadhikaram.
He started the Kasthuri Sreenivasan Trust in 1981 to promote arts, literature and to encourage artists and writers. The Kasthuri Sreenivasan Culture Centre with an Art Gallery and Textile Museum was built in 1988. The Coimbatore Cancer Foundation was started in 1991 following his battle with Cancer.
The Kasthuri Sreenivasan Trust pays tribute to the multi-faceted genius during the year of his birth centenary in 2017 and stays committed to upholding the high ideals of integrity and social upliftment that he strived for.
Kasthuri Sreenivasan Trust celebrates the birth centenary of Shri Kasthuri Sreenivasan on Saturday the 22nd July 2017 at 10.00 a.m. at SITRA Auditorium, Avanashi Road, Coimbatore.
Mr. N. Ram, Chairman, The Hindu Group of Publications will be the Chief Guest and launches the biography “A Life of Impact” and delivers the Centenary address.
Dr. B.K.Krishnaraj Vanavarayar, Chairman, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Coimbatore Kendra will be the Guest of Honour and delivers the Special address.
Mrs. Sharda Sampath, IPoS, Post Master General, Western Region (TN) will release the Special Cover.
Mrs. Shobhana Kumar, author-A Life of Impact will speak about the book.
Mr. Sanjay Jayavarthanavelu, Vice Chairman-Council of Administration, SITRA and Dr. T. Balaji, Managing Trustee, Coimbatore Cancer Foundation will deliver the Felicitations.
Cultural Programme – “Gates of Heaven” a drama written by Mr.K.Sreenivasan will be staged by Coimbatore Art & Theatrical Society.
